Summary: | Communicationisaninevitableandindispensablephenomenonintheworldofhumanity.Andfromcreationtothepresenttime,manhasdevelopedvariousmediaofsendingandreceivingmessages.Inourcontemporaryperiod,socialmediahascometostayasmajorchannelsofcommunicationglobally.ThisstudythereforeunderscoresthesocialmediaanditsimplicationsonChristianyouthsinselectedchurchesofOyoTownship.Thestudyadopteddescriptiveresearchdesignwiththeuseofstructuredquestionnaires;guidedbyfiveresearchquestions.Onehundred(100)respondentsweredrawnfromten(10)churchesthroughtheuseofsystematicrandomsampling.Thesechurchescutacrossmain-line,PentecostalandAfricanIndependentChurches.Datawereanalyzedusingfrequencycounts,tablesandpercentagemethod.ThestudyrevealedthatsocialmediaaregrosslyabusedespeciallyamongChristianyouthsbothwithinandoutsidethechurch.Itisalsodiscoveredthatsocialmediacanbeofgreatbenefitstotheyouthsandthechurchifproperlychanneled.Itwasthereforerecommendedthat;parentsandguardiansshouldbeproactiveandresponsibletomonitor,cautionandeducatetheirwardsinordertocurbexcesses.Thechurchalsoshouldpositivelyengagetheyouthviasocialmediabyorganizingseminars,conferencesanddissemination of Bible studies and gospel messages. |
