| Summary: | The Orthodox Church teaches that it is the only true Church. Does it form the dogmatic thesis that salvation is only available in the Orthodox Church? Soteriological exclusivism is a reality, which is difficult to an unambiguous assessment. Depending on their presuppositions concerning the ecumenical openness, recognition of the ecclesiality of other Christian Churches and God’s saving will, Orthodox theologians reject or allow the possibility of salvation of people outside the visible borders of the Orthodox Church. In the search for the answer to the question posed in the title of the article, the theological reflection was undertaken on three main issues, namely: Orthodoxy as the true Church of Christ and the Holy Spirit, soteriological radicalism of the Orthodox Church and the possibility of salvation in other Churches and Christian Communities, and the openness to the opportunity of salvation for the Christians outside the Orthodox Church. The analyzes show that the soteriological views of Orthodox theologians are basically conditioned by their fundamentalist or ecumenical convictions. |
