Summary: | The concept of "ritual laughter" was formulated at the beginning of the 20th century though the sources were lacking and ambiguous. Since then, it has also provided an explanation of the phenomenon of Risus paschalis, confirmed by German preachers between the late Middle Ages and early Modern Age. At Easter, preachers used to tell a little story to make devotees laugh. Scholars have not taken into account neither alternative interpretations nor prejudices leading to the above mentioned phenomena. They have merely repeated ideas coming from 19th century comparativism. New study of these phenomena is now required due to the series of questions arisen by the author. (English) |
