Summary: | The Inquisitor in Malta also served as Apostolic Delegate: two distinct roles which invariably overlapped, and at times seemed indistinct, particularly in the exes of the Grand Master - the Islands' 'lay' administrator. Traditionally, this relationship has been presented as one of antagonism and conflicts. This paper will suggest an alternative/complimentary reading to this relationship, in particular, by looking at official meetings between these two figures. It will present a nmber of historials/historiographical cases woven together to present a more holistic view of magistral-inquisitorial relations. |
