Face à la remise en cause de la représentation traditionnelle d’un Dieu simple et parfait, dont il explicite les motifs et présente les différents courants (Process theology, Open Theism, théologie analytique, théologies contextuelles…), D. S. Long propose un « aggiornamento » de la doctrine traditionnelle telle qu’il la trouve aussi bien chez saint Thomas que chez les théologiens de la Réforme. Malgré quelques limites dans l’interprétation du De Deo de saint Thomas, l’ouvrage constitue une excellente introduction à la problématique actuelle de la doctrine sur Dieu. This paper critically presents and evaluates the work of Methodist theologian D. S. Long, The Perfectly Simple Triune God. Aquinas and His Legacy (2016). Starting from the criticism of the traditional representation of a simple and perfect God, whose motives he explains and presents in its different currents (Process theology, Open Theism, analytical theology, contextual theologies…), D. S. Long offers an “aggiornamento” of traditional doctrine as he finds it both in Saint Thomas and in the theologians of the Reformation. Despite some limitations in the interpretation of Aquinas’ De Deo, the work constitutes an excellent introduction to the current problematic of the doctrine on God. |
