Summary: | This is an edited version of a lecture given by Ioan Sauca in February 2023 at the Study Centre for the Eastern Churches at the Institute for Ecumenical Studies of the University of Fribourg, Switzerland, at the invitation of Professor Barbara Hallensleben. The lecture takes stock of Sauca's experience as a World Council of Churches (WCC) staff member, professor, and director of the Ecumenical Institute at Bossey and, more recently, as the first Orthodox to serve as acting general secretary of the WCC; from that experience and learning, Ioan Sauca draws conclusions about the future of the ecumenical movement. |
