Summary: | Scientific evidence shows that emotions are a fundamental part of social dynamics. This article focuses on the role of some group-based emotional processes in shaping individual and social responses to events related to intractable conflicts and peacebuilding processes. By highlighting the interconnection of cognitive processes, beliefs, attitudes and socio-political actions, it emerges how the emotional orientation of the individual and of the group affects both the success and failure of peacebuilding and post-conflict reconciliation attempts. The first part of the work examines the socio-psychological infrastructure of intractable conflicts in which collective emotions are formed. The second part outlines how some specific emotions stimulate attitudes and actions related to the creation, preservation and resolution of conflicts. (English) |
