Description
Summary:This essay proposes that the main focus of theology and church in Africa today should be about fashioning a people for God. Through a survey of the developments in African theology, the essay defends the need for a change of focus in African theology from identity issues to constructing ecclesiologies of abundant life and inclusion that are capable of transforming Africa. The essay discusses some of the challenges that African theology must overcome today in addressing the so-called African predicament in African churches and societies. It offers some proposals for the construction of a life-generating theology of the people in Africa. Such a theology, the essay demonstrates, offers a praxis of agency in Africa in potentiating Africans to become protagonists through their faith claims and commitments in creating their own history. This way, it will become possible for all God's people in Africa, especially the poor, to enjoy even in small ways, the fruits of the eschatological reign of God in present history.
