| Summary: | From a confessional Lutheran point of view the Apocrypha do not belong to the canon of Sacred Scripture, but are part ofthe Bible. They are "useful and good to read "as Luther says. Some of the Apocryphal texts can be found in contemporary Protestant and Lutheran German lectionaries. It is possible to preach about them within a framework of teaching based on the canonical scriptures (following Martin Chemnitz), as is demonstrated in the case of Sir 35:13-18. One can arrive at an ecumenical understanding concerning the Apocrypha for they are close to the canoncial writings, and are regarded as "deuterocanonical" even by those who include them in their Bible canon. |
