Description
Summary:The question of the sequencing and dating of Chrysostom’s homilies In Genesim (CPG 4409) has seen lively debates in both earlier and recent scholarship. This short note points to a textual connection between Chrysostom’s De ss. Bernice et Prosdoce (CPG 4355) and In Genesim and explores its relevance for the sequencing and dating of both writings. Comments in homilies 32 and 33 In Genesim about Paschaltide preaching have opened a field for different proposals about the potential sequence of homilies Chrysostom delivered during this period. The connection between De ss. Bernice et Prosdoce and In Genesim calls for a reconsideration of hypothesized sequences. Moreover, in light of the established connection, discussions on the dating of De ss. Bernice et Prosdoce become relevant for the estimations of the dating of In Genesim.
