Description
Summary:The witness of slain Indigenous environmental defender Berta Cáceres forms the starting point for this present ecotheological reflection on racism, patriarchy, and capitalism as interlocking drivers of extractivist violence and environmental collapse. After first fleshing out the story of Berta's work as environmental defender, her assassination, and ongoing legacy, the article turns to an analysis of how ecofeminism, ecowomanism, and decolonial feminism might enter into fruitful conversation with one another to arrive at a full-bodied critique of this "colonial trifecta." Finally, the article concludes with a theological consideration of how Berta's witness - along with the contributions of ecofeminism, ecowomanism, and decolonial feminism - issue an important challenge to Christian ecotheologies, especially those inspired by Pope Francis' "integral ecology".
