Description
Summary:This article presents the colonial background to the narratives of racism and sexism for Oceania women. It explores how a patriarchal-colonial interpretation and expression of the Christian faith contributes to these multiple oppressions and narratives for women from Pasifika. The authors end with a challenge to Christian Churches and academia alike to grapple with and take consequent action to change Oceania women's narratives of multiple oppressions because Christianity has had a long dalliance with colonialism and the legacy of empire. As we assert, the expansion of the Christian faith out of Europe was intimately bound to a Christendom paradigm and the power politics of empire.
