| Summary: | Cet article interroge la généalogie de Jésus proposée en ouverture de l’évangile selon Matthieu. En comparant les incipit des évangiles canoniques, il apparaît que seul Matthieu choisit l’écriture généalogique pour amorcer son récit et en poser les fondements. Le rappel du rôle des généalogies dans le judaïsme ancien et post-exilique souligne les procédés utilisés par Matthieu pour raconter ces engendrements exclusivement orientés vers Jésus. Par une série d’étranges insertions et omissions, Matthieu subvertit l’écriture généalogique pour nourrir un discours théologique. Elle lui permet d’annoncer à la fois la filiation humaine et l’élection divine de son personnage principal. This article examines the genealogy of Jesus in the opening verses of the gospel of Matthew. The comparison of the incipits of the canonical gospels shows that Matthew alone relies on genealogical writing to introduce and establish the foundations of his narrative. Matthew was aware of the specific functions of genealogies in early and post-exile Judaism and he used them to relate the succession of generations which culminated in the birth of Jesus. Through a series of insertions and omissions, Matthew subverts genealogical writing to produce a theological discourse, which allows him to announce the human descent as well as the divine election of his main character. |
