Summary: | A random sample of 1021 adults in an Australian community survey provided data on purpose in life, religiosity and personality. The national data confirmed the results of previous studies on specialised populations by demonstrating that there is a positive relationship between religiosity and purpose in life after controlling for individual differences in personality. The data also suggested that the social dimension may be particularly important in understanding the psychological mechanism behind the observed relationship between religion and purpose in life. |
