Σύνοψη:The use of spiritual gift inventories in empirical religious research is becoming more prevalent. However, the psychometric properties of these inventories and the discrepancy in the number of underlying dimensions that these inventories purport to measure have raised questions about their use. This study investigated the potential usefulness and the psychometric properties of the Wagner-Modified Houts Questionnaire, a spiritual gifts inventory. Participants in this study were 108 pastoral counselors and 36 clergy. Descriptive statistics revealed gender differences among certain spiritual gifts. Males had significantly higher mean scores on the gifts of evangelism, helps, knowledge, pastor, poverty, service, and teaching. Moderate success was attained in predicting seven of eleven hypothesized gifts among pastoral counselors with clergy having consistently higher mean scores than lay persons. Exploratory factor analysis using oblique oblimin rotation produced a three-factor structure. This inventory appears to be a promising tool for further development.
