Summary: | The mapping of boundaries is an important part of the agenda of many biblical authors and their delimitation is an essential element in the construction of the biblical Book of Judges. This article examines the literary and lexical devices employed by the author(s) of the book of Judges in the marking of geographic, ethnic, sociopolitical, temporal, cosmic, religious, and bodily boundaries. It is hoped that this case study will increase scholarly awareness of the many species of boundary that are of interest to ancient Near Eastern literati as well as to the multiplicity of means employed to mark them in biblical and cognate literature. |
