Description
Summary:The article is dedicated to the notion of religion in the context of phenomenology of religion during the modernist period and the post-modern one in Western Europe. The second part of the article is devoted to Latvian phenomenology of religion of the 20s-30s of the XX century. The problem is that phenomenology of religion and comparative religion on the whole today ignore the classical category of the Sacred and that of religious experience applying to their unverifiable character. Is the methodology of sciences appropriate for religious studies? Does comparative religion have its own object of research? Which paradigm of religion is appropriate for Latvian comparative religion? Those are questions we are trying to answer in the present article.
