Summary: | The newspaper of the Latvian Evangelical Lutheran church Svetdienas Rits gives the testimony about the authoritarian ideology in 1934-1940. It can be seen in the reports about the political changes of the 15 May 1934, the president Karlis Ulmanis and in the discussions about the church and nationalism. The authors published in Svetdienas Rits give theological interpretation of the development in the state and also for the role of Karlis Ulmanis himself. He is regarded as a God's sent redeemer of the Latvian nation and so his role is interpreted only in the positive way. The influence of the stress on the nationalism in the authoritarian ideology was present in the discussion about the necessity to latvianize the Lutheran worship. |
