| Summary: | The person of St. Catherine of Siena has always fascinated numerous scholars, who have carried out a great deal of research concerning her. Yet, notwithstanding the extensive scholarship regarding St. Catherine, there do remain some episodes of her life that are still little studied, as is the case of the mystical nuptials. An event unique in its time, without specific precedents, unless such a precedent were discerned in the case of St. Catherine of Alexandria, which, however, is marked by some problems and differences. In the first part of this article, an attempt is made to observe how the episode of the nuptials was received, and its memory handed on, be the very earliest acquaintances of the Saint of Siena. La figura de S. Catalina de Siena siempre ha fascinado a numerosos académicos que han realizado diversas investigaciones sobre ella. A pesar de la numerosa producción científica sobre S. Catalina, algunos episodios de su vida siguen siendo poco investigados, como la del matrimonio místico. Un evento casi único para la época, que no encuentra similares precedentes sino en S. Catalina de Alejandría, aunque si con algunos problemas y diferencias. Esta investigación intenta analizar el episodio del matrimonio místico. En la primera parte se intenta reconstruir los posibles modelos hagiográficos anteriores prestando especial atención a la comparación con S. Catalina de Alejandría. En la segundo parte se trata de observar cómo el episodio de la boda fue recibido y entregado por los primeros conocedores de la Santa de Siena. |
