Summary: | The missionary movement in Belgium provides an interesting case study for evaluating the mutations which Catholic missionary work has undergone. Whereas missionary work in the 19th and early 20th centuries was largely dominated by a proselytizing approach - influenced by Romanticism and colonialism - later the emphasis came to be more on inculturation and dialogue between religions. In the evolution of missiology, which also underlies this development, Belgian intellectuals played an important role. |
