| Summary: | Sefer Serubabbel is the name of a pseudoephigraphical work which probably originates from the 7th century in Palestine or its surroundings. The importance of the tractate is stressed, with the reference to the eschatological schema it describes and the personages it inaugurates into the schema, influencing almost all later Jewish writing on the subject. The inner layer of the text constitutes the frame narrative, which describes the acts of Serubabbel, his meeting with the suffering Messiah and the angelus interpres. The text is a major witness to the confluence of the Metatron and Michael traditions. The innermost layer consists of the segments in which the angel(s) tell(s) about future events. The author focuses on a presentation of Hefsi-bah, Messiah ben Joseph and Armilos. |
