Description
Summary:The text reflects on the positions held by various social, university and political sectors, as well as by young people, religious congregations, and Catholic bishops in the face of the 1968 student movement in Mexico. The government of the time asserted that the student mobilization was in response to an international Marxist and communist plot, that wished to destabilize Mexico in the context of the celebration of the XIX Olympiad in the country. The Mexican bishops of the time, apart from the bishop of Cuernavaca, Sergio Méndez Arceo, accepted this interpretation and remained silent about the events. The lack of episcopal solidarity affected the Catholic faith.
