In the 1870s and 1880s, initiatives emerged to organize Catholics around Catholic Associations and a Catholic Union to bring together all Catholics, from legitimists to constitutionalists and liberals. From the 1890s onwards, under the banner of catholic nationalism and a "catholic-political apostolate", were founded Catholic Centers, the Catholic Parliamentary Centre, National Centers, and the Nationalist Party with the aim of defending the traditional prerogatives of their Church. | ||
