Summary: | The Virgin Mary, also identified as Forest Queen, became patron of the Santo Daime religion due to her presence in the foundational narratives that identify her as the spiritual instructor of the founder Raimundo Irineu Serra (Mestre Irineu) in his initiation with ayahuasca, amerindian tea and used in the daimista cult. In this article, we develop a reflection on how the notions of frontier and "between place", as applied to the brazilian religious field from the perspective of the pluralist principle, help us to think about this mythical construction. We consider the Virgin Mary presence in this myth as a third creative element, the result of a process of cultural negotiation and symbolic reappropriation in the seek for legitimacy and particular contours to the emergence of a new religious subjectivity on the border between different traditions. |
