Summary:Brazil is known for its cultural plurality and has religious diversity; however, it presents intolerance in the religious inviroment presented by the portuguese at the time of the colonization. This intolerance has been generating prejudice and discrimination directed to the followers of the religions of African matrices, Candomblé and Umbanda. This study examined the perception about the stigma of religions of African arrays by followers of Candomblé and Umbanda places in the city of Montes Claros. During the historical process of the colonization of Brazil, several cultures and beliefs were brought, perpetuating until the present days. It was noticed hat it is necessary the population aware to the studies of effective public policies to reduce conflicts related to the followers to the religions of African matrices.
