Summary: | The Society of the Muslim Brothers sees Islam not merely in terms of religious observance but rather as an integral way of life. According to them, education means more than just teaching (though teaching remains the most important means of education) and is not an end in itself but a means to an end. As such, they have linked education with practical aspects of life, in an attempt to achieve a complete change in behaviour patterns. This approach to education is what the Muslim Brothers called Jihadia, as opposed to military education. The primary concern of this article is to examine and discuss the support systems that reinforced the Muslim Brothers military structure with a programme of education for the Society's members, and attempts to answer such questions as why Jihadia education was so important for the Society. |
