Description
Summary:Spanish seminaries experienced, throughout the nineteenth century, a process of profound decline, as a consequence of the unstable political and ecclesial situation of the country. Lack of intellectual level, decay of theology and discipline problems joined the political tension and power conflicts in the ecclesiastical elites. During the Restoration, there were various riots, among them the one that took place in 1897 in Toledo. The conflict that happened in the seminary was a reflection of the existing tensions in the very Toledan curia and chapter. Only the arrival of the new prelate, Sancha, would allow making the necessary reforms for the renewal of the institution.
