Description
Summary:As we celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of Humanae Vitae, we reflect upon the encyclical's development, both in the historical context in which it was written and in its connection to earlier magisterial teaching, especially Pius XI's Casti Connubii. While it deals specifically with contraception, Humanae Vitae is rooted in a Christian anthropology that understands the sexual procreative act within the context of marriage and the conjugal love upon which the Christian family, i.e. the domestic church, is founded.
