| Summary: | This article deals with the question of how Ernesto Buonaiuti’s comparison with Rudolf Otto, by affinity and by difference, involves both the level of general reflection on religion, and the level of reconstruction and evaluation of the history of Christianity, in particular in the complex relationships between Middle and Modern Ages. Instead of a mere dependence on Otto in Buonaiuti, we can observe an interlocution that is useful for the Italian historian to resume some aspects of his "modernist" youth, taking into account of what he himself had subsequently elaborated. |
