Description
Summary:United by a special interest in the figure of Francis of Assisi, but divided by a different idea of the study of history, Ernesto Buonaiuti and Mariano Cordovani were destined not to understand each other. Through the analysis of the printed works on the Umbrian saint written by both the Dominican theologian and the modernist historian and mainly by the presentation of the documentation from the Archives of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, the essay aims to reconstruct the failure to condemn the profile of Francesco di Assisi and thus offer an original look at Buonaiuti’s complex intellectual biography.
