Description
Summary:Charles Taylor, the Canadian philosopher from Montreal, turned 90 in November 2021. The celebrations of this anniversary cannot leave indifferent people involved in the field of Religious Studies. In the article, Taylor's significant contributions to the study of religion - an innovative view of secularization, a refined genealogy of modern identity, a philosophical anthropology hospitable to the experience of the sacred, a revisionary understanding of the concept of "religion" - is reconstructed starting from his works published in the "Annali di studi religiosi" along the years. In conclusion, taking a cue from the essay "History of Ethical Growth", the figure of Charles Taylor is portrayed as that of a teacher, a "maestro" in the old sense of the word, in an age that distrusts masters.
