Description
Summary:Current New Testament scholars are interested in exploring new methods and approaches such as narrative and rhetorical perspectives. The results are indicating that this approach can indeed bring intriguing insights. Pentecostal scholars have also been considering the unique view of approaching scripture through the lens of Spirit interpretation. In this present group of essays, Paul Elbert explores the issue, first presenting what this means (chapters 1 & 2) and then illustrating with examples in chapter 4 (on Matt 16:19) and chapter 5 (Gen. 1). He also investigates how this perspective could be integrated with modern approaches such as narrative and rhetoric criticism (chapters 2 & 3). Chapter 8 treats the issue itself by reviewing and critiquing Kenneth Archer's proposal of a pentecostal hermeneutic. The last chapter examines the perspective of Calvin on spiritual gifts
