It deals with questions of cult and cult practises in the specific urban and social environment of Palmyra. The article gives an analysis of the archaeological history of the sanctuary of Baalshamîn, based also on the study of the epigraphy which casts light on the urban development of Palmyra (and vice versa) and on the development of its religious life in general.
