Summary:To speal of transformation is a new approach in ecumenical theology. it is related to a new tendency in reformation history research to interpret the reformation as a complex transformation pmcess in the transitional period from the Middle Ages to the modem era rather tharn as a departure point into modemity. The term "transformation" has also been used occasionally in research of the history of dogma. This article explores to which extent it ma1es sense to spea1 of transformations in ecumenical research as well, in doing so, however, a number of impHcations arise that primarily concern the goal of ecumenism.
