| Summary: | Biblical fundamentalism today goes far beyond being one among several methods of reading and interpreting biblical texts. It is a powerful political weapon used by conservative sectors of society to conquer and maintain power, against all attempts to build a more humane society without being excluded or unequal. Fundamentalism makes politics a detestable holy war of “good” against “evil”. The first part of this study seeks to revisit recent history, especially from the perspective of ICAR, to better understand how we arrived at this situation. The second part seeks to deepen the concept of “shalom” (retribution and prosperity) and of “justice” to see how, in biblical memory, two antagonistic projects and two ways of achieving shalom meet, challenge and confront each other. It is the conflict between two “faces” o God that will culminate in the crucifixion of Jesus the blasphemer! O fundamentalismo bíblico, hoje, vai muito além de ser um entre vários métodos de leitura e de interpretação dos textos bíblicos. É uma poderosa arma política usada por setores conservadores da sociedade para conquistar e manter o poder, contra todas as tentativas de construir uma sociedade mais humana sem excluídos e sem desiguais. O fundamentalismo faz da política uma detestável guerra santa do "bem" contra o "mal". A primeira parte deste estudo quer retomar a história recente, sobretudo na perspectiva da ICAR, para compreender melhor como chegamos a esta situação. A segunda parte procura aprofundar o conceito de "shalom" (retribuição e prosperidade) e de "justiça" para ver como, na memória bíblica, se encontram, se interpelam, se confrontam, dois projetos antagônicos e duas maneiras de alcançar o shalom. É o conflito entre dois "rostos" de Deus que culminará na crucificação de Jesus, o blasfemador! |
