Description
Summary:The essay thoroughly analyzes the Rite of the Sacrament of Penance found in the Euchologium Sinaiticum. This manuscript is the oldest Slavonic Euchologium and the first known Slavonic document where the Rite of sacramental Confession is preserved. The content of its prayers and exhortations is given as well. This approach will help a reader to get a better perception of the material. Moreover, the liturgical text will be put and analyzed in its historical and theological context, that is on the crossroad of Byzantine and Latin traditions. Indeed, both of them strongly influenced the Slavonic one. A comparison with them will result in a better understanding of specifically Slavonic features in the Rite of Penance.
