| Summary: | In this study of the use of the Old Testament in Luke-Acts, initially undertaken as a doctoral dissertation at Concordia Seminary in St Louis, Meek focuses specifically on the citations that relate to the Gentile mission in Acts. He gives particular attention to four texts from four OT books (Isa 49:6 in Acts 13:47; Am 9:11-12 in Acts 15:16-18; Joel 3:1-5 in Acts 2:17-21 and Gen 22:18 in Acts 3:25) that occur in speeches by three of the most important characters (Peter, Paul and James) in Acts. Two, Acts 13:47 and 15:16-18, explicitly function in the narrative to legitimate the mission to the Gentiles while the other two (Acts 2:17-21, 3:25) anticipate it (10). |
