| Summary: | This study is the revised doctoral thesis of the author completed in 2006 at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary under the guidance of Andreas Köstenberger. It helps to know that the author is a conservative scholar writing as someone who grew up in communist Romania. This conservative background of the scholar is sometimes exhibited in statements that are made quite prematurely, such as one p.3, where the author already suggests 'at face value' that Paul and Apollos had a 'harmonious' relationship (in contrast to the view of Dickerson (from an unpublished doctoral dissertation) that Paul and Apollos were indifferent towards each other). The study is also very optimistic, as the author states, 'This work seeks to give... answers,' and provide a synthesis on Paul's stance toward Graeco-Roman rhetoric (2). |
