| Summary: | The challenges that African biblical critics face arise from the contextual nature of African readings of the Bible, the diversity of the African context and the ambivalence of the Bible. Because contextual Bible reading has to do with the social role of the Bible, African readings of the Bible must impact society in its various dimensions. The ultimate challenge is to be creative in developing methods that serve the hermeneutical concerns of the African context, and in reading the Bible against the grain of conventional paradigms to produce African contextual readings that make a distinctive contribution to global biblical research. |
