Summary: | To get a clear view of the Phoenician and Biblical personal name 'tbcl, we have decided to make a fresh investigation into the meaning of the word itself and to determine in what sense the word 't is used in some Ugaritic texts. 'tbcl appears once in the Phoenician inscriptions, namely the Ahiram-inscription of Biblos.1) This inscription, found in 1923, is generally assigned to the early tenth century B.C. 'tbcl appears once also in the Biblical Hebrew viz. 1 Ki. 16 : 31.2) Sanherib 701 B.C. mentioned the appointment of a king named Tu-ba'lu in Sidon.3) Further is a 'tbcl king of Tyros.4) |
