Description
Summary:In this volume, Kelli O'Brien analyses the sixteen references to scripture in Mark 14-15 that she judges to be allusions. She argues that "allusion to Scripture is a tool to help the reader discover the underlying treasure in the outwardly simple story of the Gospel of Mark" (4). Her primary argument is that "[in Mark,] allusion to Scripture functions to interpret the narrative as a narrative, to define characters and to foreshadow and give meaning to events" (16). Her approach is literary and based on a synchronic reading of the Markan passion narrative (19).
