Summary:Up to the present the Twelfth Benediction (better known as the Birkat ha Minim) of the Jewish statutory prayer has figured prominently in discussions of the separation of church and synagogue and the development of Jewish Christianity. The aim of this paper is to provide a short overview of the present state of research concerning the role and function, if any, of the Birkat ha-Minim in the period between the destruction of the temple and the Bar Kachba revolt.
