Description
Summary:Austin Farrer (1904-1968) is a significant figure in the Anglican church of the twentieth century (less well known outside Anglican circles), appreciated chiefly for his work as a philosophical theologian. Robert Titley's book is intended as an assessment of Farrer's hitherto neglected biblical scholarship, of which the most important is his work on the Gospel of Mark. Titley is well placed to undertake this task from an insider's perspective. Himself a card-carrying Anglican (Canon Residentiary of Southwark Cathedral in London and Director of Ordinands for the Anglican Diocese of Southwark), his supervisor for the doctoral research on which this book is based was Leslie Houlden, who succeeded Farrer as Chaplain and Fellow of Trinity College, Oxford.
