Descrição
Resumo:The author states the purpose of this book as : "(T)o provide students and colleagues, especially systematic theologians, with a synthesis of the theologies in the NT that will enable them to see the diverse unity of the NT" (xvii). This should be commended, because of recurrent criticism from the ranks of systematic theologians that NT scholars do not always provide the necessary and relevant information upon which to ponder systematic theology. Although the book is not as voluminous as many others on the subject, given the size of the subject matter, it still is considerable in terms of its declared purpose. Although Matera refers to many prominent authors and reflects on many influential positions, he does not go into technical detail of interest mostly to NT scholars. This would also be the reason for his relatively few footnotes and quite thin bibliography.
