Description
Summary:Michael J. Kruger (Ph.D., University of Edinburgh), is President and Professor of NT at Reformed Theological Seminary, Charlotte, NC. His broad but cohesive exposition of various issues relating to the canon of Scripture - its definition, development, composition, and controversies - consists of a Preface, an Introduction, two major Parts (the first with 3 chapters, the second with 5), a Conclusion, an extensive Bibliography (59 pages!), a General Index, and a Scripture Index. Arising from a seminary class on the NT canon, the author seeks to answer "the fundamental question of how we, as Christians, can know that we have the right twenty-seven books in our New Testament" (15, original emphasis), which has been called "the 'Achilles' heel' of Protestant Christianity" (15). Moving from pertinent historical and socio-religious issues, Kruger focuses upon theological concerns and the textual testimony of the NT documents themselves as well as the writings of early Church authorities.
