Description
Summary:This collection of essays seeks to address the debate over Gospel audiences and origins, particularly as this debate has been shaped and influenced by the publication of The Gospels for All Christians: Rethinking the Gospel Audiences (Grand Rapids: Eerdmans, 1998). The contributors to the present volume are drawn from different sides of the debate, and besides the editor himself, include Richard Bauckham, Craig Blomberg, Adele Reinhartz, Michael F. Bird, and Justin March Smith. The first essay is that of the editor, 'Gospels Audience and Origin: The Current Debate (1-26) which sets out the fundamental significance of the question of audience and origin for any reading of the gospels and provides a short survey of the debate. As such this chapter reflects Klink's earlier essay ('The Gospels Community Debate: State of the Question', CBR 3 (2004) 68-85) but serves as a useful introduction to the contours of the debate, even for those who have not engaged with it before.
