Description
Summary:In this soft cover volume, Nürnberger sets out to elaborate on previous observations made concerning the proposed needs to "stop artificial need creation and wastage" and to "overcome collective selfishness" (Prosperity, Poverty and Pollution: Managing the Approaching Crisis; Pietermaritzburg: Cluster Publications, 1999; p. 389). This monograph, in contrast to previous publications, addresses the individual Christian and the church leader directly. Nürnberger thus offers a short but eminently readable monograph seeking to improve the economic landscape of the average citizen rather than that of distinct social or political groups. To this end, various concepts such as income, poverty, deprivation, privilege and affluence are framed within a discussion around societal and historical observations pertaining to the current economy. Nürnberger wraps up his observations and suggestions with a commentary on Paul's view of socio-economic structures.
