| Summary: | The multiplicity and the unique nature of the problems in connection with this significant text from the Book of Malachi prompted me to confine myself to some ""Randbemerkungen"", as K. Barth would have said. Opinions differ in regard to the authenticity the context, the exegesis and the general meaning and purpose of this verse. I am not going to linger on the road to greet those scholars who are inclined to write their own Bible, and to dismiss texts which do not comply with their understanding of a particular portion of Scripture. Verses 11-14 are indeed ""fully in keeping with the thought of the rest of the books"". |
