Description
Summary:In his monograph Nickelsburg observes the need for a new approach towards understanding Christianity. He argues that a reading of texts that have come to light recently as well as previously extant texts by means of more recent methodology will demonstrate the need to appreciate the writings and traditions of the early church more comprehensively and somewhat differently. To this end Nickelsburg reminds the reader that as the study of previously unknown texts and the application of different analytical tools progressed, Judaism has begun to show itself as increasingly variegated. Based on this observation, Nickelsburg argues that similar activities will likewise produce a more complex picture of early Christianity composed of diverse interpretations and beliefs. Thus Nickelsburg suggests that the re-examination of such texts would affect the current understanding of early Christianity resulting in not only an appreciation of the diversity, but also affecting NT theology and methodology.
