Summary: | The interpretation of 1 Cor 11 : 2-16 has generated much controversy in various circles. Exegetes are not unanimous on what exactly the author was trying to communicate. It appears, however, that one of the key but highly debatable issues raised in this intriguing passage concerns "head covering" at worship gatherings within the Corinthian set-up. This issue which has also become a thorny one among many churches in Africa, deserves careful study and context-sensitive application. It is being argued in this paper that an exegesis of 1 Cor 11 : 2-16 suggests, among others, an open approach to the question of "head covering" which should be carefully handled within each cultural setting. |
